Question : Workstation Primary Group ID set as Domain Controller

After fixing a replication issues in our global environment last night, we ran Replmon, to ensure that we had no more issues. The results pulled up a workstation that thinks it is a DC. Upon further investigation we found the workstation in question in the proper OU of our AD. Viewing the properties of the workstation, its only membership was that of the Domain Controllers Group. I tried to remove the workstation from the group and I get the error
The primary group cannot be removed, set another group as primary if you want to remove this one.
So I added the Domain Computers group on the member of list, and tried to set that as the Primary Group ID and I get this error.
The following Active Directory error occurred: Cannot change primary group ID of a Domain Controller account.

Is there a way to get this corrected just by using AD and the associated support tools?

My initial thoughts are to remove the workstation from the domain. Delete the workstation from AD. Rejoin the workstation. But if I don’t have to interfere with the user and the workstation and can correct this just through manipulation of AD I will. Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of this before. But you should be able to perform a metadata cleanup and remove it from the DCs as defined as a domain controller.

Don't forget to clean up FRS and DNS. This link should show you how to remove these AD objects as well as FRS and DNS.
