Question : Dell 1397 Wireless mini-card on Latitude E5500 won't connect to WAP

We purchased four new Dell Latitude E5500 laptops, running Windows XP Prof.  All connected fine to our wireless network (Cisco Aironet 1200 series access points - no broadcasting). They have internal Dell 1397 WLAN mini-cards.

After three weeks of no problems, they all started showing that "the wireless network is unavailable".  Other model laptops connect just fine - all run XP Prof.

Here is what I have done so far:
* Installed all Windows Updates
* Installed all available driver updates
* Checked BIOS to be sure wireless is enabled
* Checked switch on laptop to be sure wireless is enabled
* Removed & re-added 1397 card with latest drivers
* Installed another USB Wireless adapter to see if that one would work (no dice)
* Uninstalled all Dell Wireless Management Utilities
* Formatted the C: drive & reloaded Windows XP
* Installed the Dell drivers for all hardware, leaving out the wireless mgmt utility - managed by windows only, still does not work

The broken laptop is sitting right next to my laptop, which connects with no problems (a dif brand)

If I load the Dell WLAN utility, it does see my non-broadcasting network when I provide the SSID & it can monitor the signal.  However when I set up a connection with all the settings (ssid & wep key, etc) on the "wireless networks" tab, it has a big red x over the icon.  If I right click & choose connect, it does nothing.

I am at wits end & would appreciate any advice... THANK YOU!

Answer : Dell 1397 Wireless mini-card on Latitude E5500 won't connect to WAP

Had no problems connecting at home... found a wireless access point in the attic here that I hadn't previously known about and reset it.  Problem solved!  Why it only affected the Dell laptops, I have no idea???  Thanks again!
