Question : How do I transfer an existing Clipper data base running in dos on a XP PC?

I have an XP PC (named LJK2) acting as a server to 2 workstations. This company runs their business on a 3rd party application written in Clipper (11/03). They do a straight backup of the c:\ drive to an external drive. They have never performed a restore -system is starting to fail.

They execute this program from a dos icon.

I have copied a folder entitled 'Mail', that the dos icon points to, along with folders (seem to be associated - related files) 'BU' and 'Tiger' to an external drive. I have tried to recreate the LJK2 envirnoment on a test XP PC with no success.

The DOS Icon PIF:
Start in C:\Mail\Work
Target C:\Mail\mail.bat

I double click on the icon, it flashes like a bat file -runs for a split second, then nothing.
I get no error messages after execution or w/in the event logs.

I recreated the folder structure, pc name, user permissions, icon properties and changed envirnoment variables w/in the system to mimic LJK2. What am I doing wrong?

It appears that Access 2000 and Crystal Reports was installed in Nov 2003. I installed Access with the same results.

Can't contact original developer.
Have no documentation or supporting software.
All I have is found zip files associated to the 3rd party application w/in the mail/tiger folder that lead no where.

Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot/execute this program, containing the latest data, on my test machine to ensure a successful redundant backup?
