Question : How do I delete the default recipient policy in exchange 2010?

Here is the deal.  We upgraded from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 but did not follow a true upgrade path, and as such we are having some issues.  I have tracked one of these issues down to the fact that we did not upgrade the recipient policy in Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  In order to do this, we need to run a cmdlet in the management shell.  But when we run the command, we get an error.  I tracked that error down to be because someone had set mailbox manager settings in the default policy, and in order to upgrade to the Exchange 2010 format for recipient policies, I need to use the exchange 2003 ESM to remove the settings before running the command.  Therein lies the problem, as you see we do not have access to an Exchange 2003 server anymore.  So, my question is how can I delete the policy outright?  Is it even possible?

My solution was to install the Exchange System Manager on a Windows XP PC and use the console to Remove the Mailbox manager settings, then remove the tab/window from the Default Recipient policy.  After that I was able to upgrade the recipient policy to the Exchange 2010 format.
