Question : Cannot join domain due to dns issues

I have a SBS 2008 domain controller and a 2008 standard server that I am trying to join to the domain.  I am getting two errors when I try two different methods:

Method 1 - I try to join the domain using just the domain name
Error:  The following error occurred when attempting to join the domain:  An attempt to resolve the DNS name of the DC in the domain etc....

Method 2 - I try to connect via the full dns name domain.local
It does not even see it

I have made absolute certain that the TCPIP configurations on the standard server have the primary DNS IP set to the DC server IP.  I think I have found why I am having this issue, but I do not knwo how to fix it.

When I set these servers up, it was on another LAN and I set them up with an ip in the range of 10.10.76.1

Now I have them at the site and have changed their IPs to match the LAN here, but I have discovered that in DNS manager, the IP did not update either in the forward lookup or revers lookup zone.

I manually changed the IP in the forward lookup, but I cannot change the reverse and I think this may be my issue.

Answer : Cannot join domain due to dns issues

Ok.  Here is what happened.

After spending almost half my weekend stuck on this problem and taking all your advice and trying all possible troubleshooting steps, I finally decided to contact Microsoft.  Believe me, I hated doing it and I was dreading having to pay their weekend rate to open a case with them.

After spending less than 15 minutes with a MS tech who came into the server remotely, he determined that my server was fully updated and that all my settings were correct.  He downloaded a Rollup update packagae and deployed it.  PROBLEM FIXED.  I was refunded my money for this case because this was not availabel in the updates from the MS site.  I'm still unclear on what update fixed the issue, but I was very angry that whatever it was, it wasted a great deal of my time.

I'm closing the case.  Thanks fro all your help on this guys.
