Question : Could not start the Web Deployment Agent Service service on Local Computer

I have setup a  Windows XP Professional box to act as a development server for an ASP.net 4.0 MVC project.  To allow other developers to post to this box, from Visual Studio 2010, I installed the Web Deployment Agent Service.
When I try to start the service, I get the following error message:

"Could not start the Web Deployment Agent Service service on Local Computer"

Error 0x80131500: 0x80131500

I tried using the recommendations at:

but no joy.  Is the Web Deployment Agent Service incompatible with Windows XP Professional?

It should work with XP.  Is there anything else related in the event logs when you attempt to start the service?  Try adding the user that the service is running under to the local admin group for testing.  That will tell us whether or not this is permissions related.
