Question : Exchange Active Sync and self assigned certificates

I have a SBS 2003 and running Exchange on the server. I have setup Exchange Active Sync, I do not have a third party certificate I am using a self assigned one. I am having issues connecting the phones to the Exchange Active Sync. I get a generic error on Iphones, HTC's, and Windows phones. The server is up to date with SP's. I can use OWA with no problem. I checked the log files and the security logs shows a username/password error, which are all correct. Is there a way to connect to Exchange Active Sync on smart phones without using a 3rd party SSL cert?

Please follow Alan's steps on 500 error
Take a backup of your registry first.

The key thing in that step is resetting IIS Virtual Directories to default using Metabase explorer from IIS 6.0 reskit.
I think you should be fine. Just go through with Alan's steps.
