Question : Two computers conected by ethernet to same router

I have two computers that are hooked up via ethernet to the same wireless router. I want to get an access file in the desktops public computer, but its not showing up on my laptop computer. The computer doesn't even show in the "Network" sections.

Is there something I need to do in order to get it to show up?

Open a command prompt on one computer and type:  NET USE Z: \\otherPCname\c$ or Folder . If it asks you to authenticate, then do. What error do you get?

You may need to check firewalls for permission, enable file and print sharing, disable simple file sharing and like restrictions, and for some operating systems, use proper userids and passwords.
