Question : Opensuse 11.2 wireless and audio

Prior to this I have only used linux to set up web servers. So my experience is somewhat limited, feel free to treat me like a newb in your responses.

I have a laptop running openSUSE 11.2.  I have been unable to get the wireless card or the audio to work.

The laptop is a Dell Vostro 1520. I checked the hardware on their website:

Audio Card:  IDT 92HD8XX

Wireless Card: Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100

They show up in YaST under Network Card as Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card and under Sound as 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller. So this may just be a matter of configuration somewhere.
If anyone could help me in getting these to work, I would be grateful.

Answer : Opensuse 11.2 wireless and audio

Glad to hear your audio is finally working.

As to the wifi, it is as I expected: the same BCM4312 chipset as on my last laptop.
After a long time of searching I finally found back the 1-click install that I used one and a half years ago. Browse there with the laptop, click the button, let it build new kernels, and reboot. That should be it; you might have to enter Yast and enable the wifi device if it isn't working right from the start.

For future installations, you might, sooner or later, want to add the Packman repo to your Yast sources list, because it is indispensable anyway: http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories#Packman

Once enabled, you would have been able to manually install those above drivers from a root terminal like this:
zypper install broadcom-wl broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop
