Question : Sync Issues” and “Local Failures make the OST size more than 6 GB

Dear All,

I noticed something strange in outlook; my email offline storage file “outlook.ost” grew VERY big, to ~ 6 GB

After investigation, I have found that the “Sync Issues” and “Local Failures” folders contain ~ 7000 messages. Actually, these 7000 messages are a repetition of only two messages, which I tried to send yesterday. The messages are not big; the biggest is just 750KB. However, since this message was copied thousands of times into the “Local Failures” folder, this folder became very big.

To fix the problem, I had to delete all these messages from the “Sync Issues” and “Local Failures” folders. However, the “outlook.ost” file did not shrink. Since performing a Compact operation on such a big file could take very long time, I had to delete this file, then restart outlook, for the file to be created again with the normal size.

Can anyone tell me why the above happened to avoid it in another user?

Thanks

>> So you are saying you tried to send 2 email messages and they were stuck in Outbox in Outlook ?
Or they were stuck in Exchange Queue ?
Or they were being returned as undeliverable ?

I didnt understand how they were stuck from your question.

What is the status code - in terms of x.y.z

Did you check exchange message tracker.
on 2007 /2010> go to Toolbox > Message Tracking.

There is also a exchange best practices analyzer.
Run this on your server and see if it can uncover something else.
