Question : Mapping drives over a site to site VPN
Hi Experts
I could do with some help. I have a SBS 2008 server and joined 3 machines to the domain. The login scripts that point to mapped drives and folder redirection all working great.
The three machines have now been moved to another country and a site to site VPN has been established between the remote site and head office. Using a Draytek 2820 with a L2TP connection.
Document synchronisation is not working (as it cannot see the server back at Head office and the mapped drives do not open.
Email’s work fine as Outlook 2007 have been configured using outlook anywhere
The internal IP address at Head Office is 172.16.1.0
The internal IP address of remote site is 172.16.3.0
The site to site VPN connection is strong and sustained and if I open up RDP on of the three desktop at the remote office (172.16.3.x) and type in the SBS IP address (172.16.1.10) then the RDP windows opens up immediately so I know the VPN connection is good.
I have added a hosts file entry to the desktop that reads
172.16.1.10 serverone.headoffice.local
But still the mapped drives and doc sync does not work. Can anyone give me any pointers
Regards and thanks in advance
Rob

Also, if you still find policy is not applied after correcting the DNS server entries, take a look at this article:
