Question : Cisco ASA 5505 Remote VPN connection - Can't connect

I am trying to setup a remote vpn to another site. I am able to asdm to the asa and make configuration changes. I used the VPN wizard and setup VPN. However when I attempt to connect utilizing the cisco VPN client i get an error reason 412 remote peer is no longer responding. I'm not sure where the problem lies. I am running the newset cisco vpn client for windows 7 x64.  I have added my running config it is probably there. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance, Chris

Answer : Cisco ASA 5505 Remote VPN connection - Can't connect

From which side do you try to run the VPN connection? If it is from WAN side make sure you aren't behind a home router NAT or any other such device.

Usually error 412 means that

- something between you and ASA blocked your connection (ex IKE protocol may not be passed through NAT correctly).
- Poor network connection. Packet delay or loss can force the VPN session to drop
- Hardware failure in a network interface card or network device.

The first one is the most certain. Try connecting from a public IP (cable or dsl modem plugged directly).

Cheers
