Question : Unable to retrieve rootDSE of ldap server
I just setup an openldap server and am trying to use a ldapbrowser (symlabs ldap browser) to edit records. When I first connect I get an error:
"No rootDSE was returned by the server"
However, I am logged in as the rootdn.
When I attempt to change a record I get:
Error trying to modify an attribute.
netscape.ldap.LDAPExceptio
n: error result (8); modifications require authentication; Strong authentication required
I am not sure if I have something misconfigured on my server or if I am logging into the wrong place on the directory tree????
Answer : Unable to retrieve rootDSE of ldap server
Get a real LDAP browser. -
http://directory.apache.or
g/studio/
Or try the ldapsearch or ldapmodify that comes with OpenLDAP.
