Question : Excel response vey slow

I have an XP SP3 laptop (2GB RAM) and Office 2003.
Word, Outlook and all other programmes, Adobe etc run fast.
Excel, however can take 30 secs+ to open a sheet and a similar length of time to do anything in the sheet, enter a figure, select a range, saving etc.
These are not particularly large sheets or have many tabs. There are a couple of macros in some sheets but not in others.
I have tried Office Detect and Repair with no luck.

I suppose I could uninstall/re-install office which with all the updates would take some time and is no guarantee that the problem will not happen again.

I have looked for a solution to this problem but mostly they talk about errors in VB code causing the problem - there is none!

Can anybody shed any light on my problem?

Thanks for your time

Answer : Excel response vey slow

rorya:
safe mode made no difference.
I discovered that the problem was only with some spreadsheets.

nappy_d:
some were on a network share, some local.

I have actually solved (well a user from another forum did) the issue:

It depends on which printer you have set as default.
In this case a network printer (that, thinking back is notoriously slow at bringing up it's properties).
When the default was set to another printer (in this case a small PDF creator) the sheets opened up at lightning speed, as the other programmes did.

A strange solution, but one that is now stored in my library!

Thanks for your time and efforts
