Question : RAM Issue with Dell Dimension 4600

I am having a problem with a dell dimension 4600 going past ( 256mb x3 + 128mb) 896mb, I've check all the dim slots and all are working same goes for my RAM, There are three slots with 256mb sticks and if I put in four, problems start happing, freezing of the PC and Blue Screens. But if I have 3 slots with 256mb and 1 with 128mb everything works fine. Any ideals?
