Question : Primvera P6 ODBC Connections

Hi Experts,

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of where to go in order to find something out about P6...

I am wondering if you can import data into P6 using a ODBC connection.  If you can, can anyone send me a link or the steps needed in order to set it up for P6?

Also what is required on the ODBC datasource?  Do you have to log in as the Schema owner in order to get the data from the ODBC Datasource (I know you had to do this with Project in the olds days... Not sure now...)

Thanks In Advance
Ben

Answer : Primvera P6 ODBC Connections

While possible, import into P6 via ODBC it is strongly discouraged and also required a through knowledge of the related tables.  Primavera maintenance can be voided should it be discovered that imports of this nature have be used by a client.

That said, use of the privuser account is the preferred user/schema to be used.  This has less dba level rights, e.g., table drops, and therefore a bit safer.

Search the Oracle Primavera Knowledgebase and you will find some Excel worksheet that use the Software Developer Kit (SDK) for imports and exports.  Generally the java API or Web Services API are recommended for this type of functionality.
