Question : OWA 2010 only working with basic authentication

it seems i can only get OWA to work on my exchagne 2010 server if i check basic authentication. every other type says wrong username password or you do not have access error. isn't basic authentication not secure? Which one should i use and why can't i get any of the others to work? any suggestions?
