Question : vectors in opposite directions

Hi

If vectors are said to be going on opposite direction does that mean that, if you give their direction as an angle, then the angles differ by 180 degrees? In the diagram below I have shown 2 parallel lines of equal magnitude but opposite direction and one has an angle of 50 degrees from the east and the other has an angle of 230 degrees from the east.

Yes, that is exactly correct.  
The vector is defined by its magnitude and direction, but the position on the page
does not matter.

To add the vectors, you would move either one so the tails coincide.
The result of the addition would be zero,
