Question : Installation of MS SQL 2005 (Recovering after a crash)

I was installing MS SQL 2005 on my laptop (xp) when it froze and I had kill it with "end task" using windows task manager.

Now I am trying to install it again but I get a Error 1618 (another installation still in process) and I am not able to start. (See image)

What should I do now? How can I clean up the old semi install?

Above error states that another installation is in progress and hence Restart your machine to get the above error resolved.
If you believe that you have partially installed SQL Server, then you can uninstall using Windows Installer Cleanup utility from here to uninstall those traces:
