Question : mx lookup and ping of same site give different ip, cant reach internal subdomain.

I setup a reverse lookup zone to an internal subdomain of the companies domain. The external IP was changed so this sub was no longer reachable.
I have asked the webmaster to change the mx record of the sub to the new ip which was done 3 hours ago. When I check the mx lookup it shows the new ip, but when I ping the subdomain in a command prompt it pings the old domain...
Is this because of a setting on the server or has the ip of the sub not propagated yet? Do i need to configure anything in active directory since the external IP was changed?

yeah you probably have ping blocked - that's more than normal.
i dont see anything else you can do except wait for propagation.
