Question : Adding Exchange 2010 server to an existing Exchange 2000
Hello. I have an existing 2003 AD network with a Win2000 server running Exchange 2000 that I am replacing with a new server running Server2008 and Exchange2010. I'm learing that I cannot simply add the new server to the existing exchange organization and migrate the mailboxes over to the new server before retiring the old server. This blows, but it is what it is I suppose.
My question is: What is the best way to intoduce a new exchange 2010 server into my network? I figure that I will need to simply extract the existing mailboxes to PST files and import them into the new server, but what about AD? Do I need to do anything for AD to recognize the new server and remove the old server? Should I extract to PST and then remove Exchange 2000, demote and shelve the old server before adding the new Exchange 2010 server?
I'm pretty good with Exchange 200/2003, but not yet well versed in 2007/2010 yet. Any/all help would be VERY appreciated!
thanks!
