Question : Vmware Virtual Centre Service not starting

Hi All

We have a Virtual centre 2.5 Update 5, its actually a VM, Full SQL server 2005 is installed on the Virtual Centre Server itself and is the only DB (along with Update Manager) on there.

The Virtual Centre Service is not starting, we get an error in the event log

I also noticed the SA account that the ODBC connection gets locked out, i created a new SQL account and made it a DBowner and sysadmin and changed the ODBC connection to use the new account but we still get the error.

I created a snapshot of the VM directly on the ESX host, then restored the Virtual Centre Database to a backup 2 days ago but again we still get this error, i have rolled back from the smapshot so im back in the original postion of having the latest DB that wont start.

Could the SQL connection details be held anywhere within the registry or a config file, or does it just use the ODBC connection.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Nick

Answer : Vmware Virtual Centre Service not starting

You also have to update the credentials for virtual center (not just in the odbc connection). See http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1002384

Good Luck
