Question : Will an xcopy script from a workstation effect BackupExec 12.5 incremtanl/diff jobs on server?
Hi All,
Quick question regarding Backup Exec 12.5. It is currently setup to run backup jobs on the server and has been running fine for a while maintained by an outside sysadmin. This is of course the primary plan for restoring data, exchange, etc. However, the site manager would like to keep a copy of their docs on their desktop for safe-keeping and easy access when they want to take a copy home. So here is the scenario to recap:
1. Windows Server 2008 houses data and exchange
2. Backup Exec 12.5 backs up to disk regularly
3. One workstation on domain wants to be able to use an xcopy script (run as a scheduled task on the workstation) to keep a synced copy of the data folder on the server on their workstation for easy access if the server is down, etc.
Will the xcopying process interfere with the archive bit and confuse Backup Exec 12.5 at all for incremental/differential backups?
Thanks, we don't regularly use Backup Exec and it will be a few days till the sysadmin can review on-site.

Yes, good catch. Do not use /M as it will set the attributes off. use /A instead.
