Question : problem connecting to backend database

Hello,
At work I use tony fe updater program- but am home now and wanted to try something.
I have a computer with windows server 2003 - and two with xp- ( they either have access 2000 or 2003)
my networking skills are ancient - but hooked them up with router and created domain. computers ping each other and If I have access database in my documents on computer with windows server 2003- I have no problem going to network places on xp machines and copying database or opening it.
problem:
I split a database  and put both front end and back end in my documents on windows 2003 server.
When I try to create shortcut to front end or even copy a front end shortcut to xp machines - I can open database - but then tells me file cannot be found in back end database.
does trigger any ideas to you- of what I may be doing wrong or could try-
thank you

Answer : problem connecting to backend database

Each user gets their own *individual* copy of the front end file on their local machine.
The FE will have "Links" to the BE DB.
Each user will have MS Access installed on their local machines as well.

The BE is on a shared folder on the server.
All users should have full rights to this folder.
The BE database should be in the lowest common format, in your case, Access 2000.

In this case each user can have a shot cut that opens "Their" front end file. (on their local machine)

There is a Database Splitting utility in access to help you do the splitting and automatically creates the links:
Tools-->Database Utilities-->Database Splitter

Does this help?
