Question : Can't connect to work Exchange from home computer (because of VPN) but Mac can! Help
I have a corporate laptop. It connects to an exchange server, I am using Outlook 2007 but it needs to connect through a cisco VPN in order to connect to the exchange server. So I 1) connect to the internet, 2) then launch the VPN program, 3) when it connects I supply my user name and password in an exchange log in, then I am connected. Works great on my corporate laptop but I wanted to be able to work off my home computer sometimes instead.
So I try on my home computer or netbook, both running outlook 2007 as well, and they obviously don't connect as it doesn't have the VPN token. I expected that, and had to content myself with Outook on the web, but I don't like it as you must be or connected to a network to run it. I would love to use my netbook on the road, type e-mails offline, and then send them when I get home and connect to my wifi.
But here is the strange part. On a whim, I was using Snow Leopard on a Mac in my house, and the built in Mail in Mac OSX (Snow Leopard) connects to my corporate e-mail and calendar without any VPN! I just entered the passwork and user once, it store it and it connects automatically. And it seems to work in a cached mode! It is awesome.
My mac now has me thinking there must be a way to connect from home without the VPN. I heard of something called EWS- some new functionaity in Exchange.
My exchange server account settings use encrypted mode, incoming SSL 443, and cached mode.
Does anyone have any ideas how I miight be able to connect using the Outlook 2007 loaded on my home Win 7 Pro PC's? THanks. Does anyone know why an apple product can connect while Outlook can't.

It won't work unless your network admin configures RPC over HTTP proxy. So my guess is that they didn't and won't. Therefore I suggest you try as I have suggested here
