Question : Expanding Array - HP Array Configuration Utility

Hi Gang

I'm having some strange issues with our Windows 2003 Server (DL380 G3) when i try to expand the array in the online ACU, i've had a dig around on here but not found any questions the same.

Problem:

Server has 6 x 300Gb disks making one logical drive. I have added an identical extra 2 x 300Gb disks.

I then went through the process of Expanding the Array. The server has now been doing the 'Expand' process for nearly a week.  I've looked into it and it should be taking 15mins per Gb to expand so should have take a couple of days max and not 7.

The server restarted yesterday and the expand process is still running so restart didn't affect it. The controller settings are set to 'High' on Expand and Rebuild Priority.

How do i start the process again? or cancel the current procedure? My next thoughts were to pop the disks out I've added, but am unsure of what will happen?

I dont think the expand is running successfully otherwise it wouldn't take this long. Anyone had this problem before with any feedback?

Thx

DC

Answer : Expanding Array - HP Array Configuration Utility

depending on disk activity, and how stuffed the drive is, it'll take longer.. i've had it take 5-6 days before for 200gb

if you can spare the time, next time you reboot at the console, go into the array card bios where you can look at the status (it'll show you a percentage of how much it's done) and just let it sit there.  no activity means it'll go a lot faster

if you cancel the job, you might be ok but probably not.  if you rip the drive out, you'll ruin your container.  it's probably already relying on these new drives
