Question : Reformat of a Dell Poweredge 1900 with a single RAID5 array on PERC5/i - loss of data on 2nd partition?
My question may seem a little odd, but bear with me. A client has a Dell 1900 with a single RAID5 array on its PERC5/i RAID card. The server has two data partitions - C: (boot drive), D: (data drive). We need to reformat the C: drive with clean Windows installation, but retain the hundreds of GB of data located on the D: drive. Normally, I would just pop in the Dell Systems Build CD, but I'm afraid that it may delete both partitions during the OS install. Does anyone know what happens to the second partition during the install?
If it does get overwritten, then I'm thinking I can't use the Dell Systems CD and have to install using the old standard method, but then I would need to be able to get the Windows installation wizard the RAID card drivers, so that it can see the drives on the RAID5 array. Problem is, this server doesn't have a floppy. Any thoughts on how to install the Windows 2003 OS without the Dell Systems CD?

The answer is not hard, and I already answered it. If it were possible, it would be considered a bug and fixed.
