Question : Notification of New Questions on Expert Exchange

Currently, when an email from EE arrives, I hear a gong and a U Got Mail popup (that lasts 30 seconds). However, sometimes my email is very slow, so I would like to bypass the email and be made aware of new questions in my zones of interest more quickly.

I noticed that in the EE Answers Question Filter (for a zone), there is a Refresh option for 30 or 60 seconds (or Off). I would like to get a gong and/or popup when a new question in one or more of my zones of interest arrives.

I am guessing that it is possible to run a script which reads a file, "EE_Zones_of_Interest.txt" and periodically sends out queries to EE comparing current results with previous, and if changes are detected, then it alerts me with a gong, and maybe even a popup.

Could someone provide me with a script (or maybe this feature is built into EE)? I am running on Windows XP Home SP3. I also have Cygwin installed and Xming. I am not familiar with scripts, but am comfortable with C/C++ using either Cygwin or Visual Studio 2008 Express. I have a little Java experience as well.
