Question : Disk space keeps filling up for no reason

I am wondering if my laptop has a problem. I have 75/80 GB HD. The laptop is a Toshiba R400 Tablet. It's running Windows 7 Ultimate. I have 11.7 GB in My Documents and 10.8 GB in iTunes.

Currently it's in Red and it's saying I have 3GB of space left. My main applications are MS Office 2010 and Adobe CS4. Excluding the Users Folder, it's showing 17.4GB. The Users folder is showing as 47.8 GB. However, there is only one profile and as far as I know the main files are in My Documents and the Music Folder.

I have had this problem with this laptop several times in the last few years. Everytime I had to take extreme measures and rebuild it. One more thing I started using DropBox recently. However, I don't think it can be just that because this issue was happening before I had DropBox installed.

Also my laptop was Windows Vista before and the same problem happened then.

Please advise.

James

Answer : Disk space keeps filling up for no reason

Get Spacemonger: http://www.sixty-five.cc/sm/v1x.php (no need for an installation, just start the executable)
This tool will create a graphical representation of your hard drive files and folders in proportion to the actual space they occupy. You will see at one glance where the largest files are, and you can right-click and delete them from inside Spacemonger.
You are especially looking for temporary files, large log files (*.log), backups and large temporary sync files; but there may be other single files that have an abnormal size. If in doubt, google the file names and/or exctensions or post here.

Also run CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com as a start to get rid of all normally known dispensable files before inspecting the drive with Spacemonger.
