Question : Word 2007 Freezes On Open/Save File - Win7Pro64/SBS2008 Server

Windows 7 Pro-64 bit - Office 2007 Pro-SBS2008 Server

Client workstations freeze for up to 3 minutes when attempting to open a file from recent files list, or save a file that's been worked on from/to a mapped network drive.  After a few minutes it will complete the open/save.

Have tried editing Group Policy "Local Computer Policies->Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Local Policies->Security Options- Microsoft Network Server: Amount of Idle Time Required before suspending session: to 0 (from 15).  And the Local Security Security Policy "Local Policies->Security Options->Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" setting to "Send LM & NLM Responses (from not defined).  Per other articles read regarding similar issues.

Other symptoms noticed are Red X's on mapped network drives in Windows Explorer, until the drive is clicked.

Driving me NUTS - suggestions are welcome before I have to resort to opening a paid support incident with Redmond (or Mumbai as the case may be)...

Regards,

Rick Stern

Answer : Word 2007 Freezes On Open/Save File - Win7Pro64/SBS2008 Server

There is a known problem with opening Office 2003 legacy files as opposed to docx which open just fine along with some other avenues.

Please run the SBS 2008 BPA to make sure that your networking settings are correct.
