Question : Need a new backup plan for SBS 2003

Experts - we are assessing our current backup strategy. We've been forced to cancel a hosted backup solution as the provider increased their storage costs beyond what we could afford. We cancelled the contract with them in June and have 30 days notice before it cuts off.

Before we chose the hosted solution - we were using Symantec BackupExec 11d and we'd like to begin using this again by backing up to a new Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS (not been purchased yet) which we'll keep in the same server room as the server.

We acknowledge the risk of no longer holding an offsite copy - but its a risk we're going to have to take as our IT dept has been cut from 3 people to 1 (me) and we dont have a tape drive nor do we want one. This is a satellite office from our head office and difficult to travel to.

As well as granular receovery being provided by Backup Exec, I'm going to schedule a traditional backup using NTBACKUP and ASR as I feel most comfortable restoring the server to same hardware using the Windows basic restore procedure. I realise we probably cant restore to disimilar hardware using this strategy - because we dont own Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010.

In essence then - and sorry for the long question - can you recommend or pick holes in this current strategy.....

x1 SBS 2003 Server
x1 Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS
x1 Backup Exec 11d to nightly backup to disk folder on NAS to provide granular recovery
x1 Nightly NTBACKUP with an ASR disk to backup to disk folder on NAS in case rebuild of server

I'm sure you'll find holes in this and it would be much appreciated if you could help me or provide a better solution.

Answer : Need a new backup plan for SBS 2003

The information that I have recommends against using local agents, and points to using ISA Lite, instead.
