Question : Intel dual ethernet card gigabit

Is there a performance loss having dual ethernet ports on a single card using one pci slot or maybe it is a pci express slot? Either way is it better to have two seprate cards or a dual card - performance wise not fault tolerance wise.

I am worried about bottlenecks, or lag time or other performance issues if the dual ports on one card shares the same pci slot.

Answer : Intel dual ethernet card gigabit

The bus speed is high enough for full passthrough on most servers, assuming the server isn't bogged down with other applications. Some folks prefer separate NICs because it has better redundency -- if a component dies on the dual-port, it may take down the whole card.
