Question : DPM 2010 - Agent Install Problem (On 2k3 DC)

I recently deployed Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2010 on a 2008 x64 server and everything installed fine.

After the install I was able to successfully install the Protection AGENT on the following systems to be backed up:

- 1x Windows XP Professional Box (non DC)
- 2x Windows Server 2008 Boxes (non DC)
- 1x Windows Server 2003 Box (DC)

I am not able to install the agent on our Server 2003 x64 Domain Controller.

I run the command: "DPMAgentInstaller_x64.exe <DPMservername>", and when the install is almost finished, the bars all roll back and I'm left with an error message that displays:

"DPMAgentInstaller failed with errorcode =0x80070424, error says: The specified service does not exist as an installed service."

I have all the required hotfixes installed as specified by the DPM 2010 manual.

NOTE: I'm not sure if it's related but for some reason I am unable to start the "Computer Browser" service on this same computer ... I get the same error message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service"... Possible registry problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help guys, but I fixed the problem. Here's what I did...

1. Install the DPM Agent WITHOUT setting a backup server. (Just c:\amd64\DPMAgentInstaller_x64.exe)
2. After installation, from a command prompt, navigate to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\bin
3. Run: SetAgentCfg.exe (NOT SetDPMServer.exe)
4. When specifiying backup server I had problems when using the FULL DNS name (i.e. dpmserver.local). After just simply using "dpmserver", everything installed fine!

I'm now working properly.
