Under central ops -> general app settings -> Infopath, I've enabled everything I can possibly find.  Infopath 2010 is installed on my client machine, as is Sharepoint Designer.

I am happy to provide more information, but at this point I'm not sure what might be relevant (that answer will probably resolve the problem).

I have opened both external lists (from LOB DB) & simple sharepoint lists within the designer, and no love for either.

Any ideas?  What in the world am I missing???  Everything else in the site appears to be working smoothly.

Thanks in advance!

Answer : Cannot enable infopath in sharepoint 2010

I've solved this incredibly annoying problem.  All it took was enabling Sharepoint Server Enterprise Site Collection Features.  To do so, open your site (NOT central admin), site settings -> site collection features -> activate the above.  Frustrating.

I'll admit that I love Sharepoint, but some of the settings are incredibly obfuscated.
