Question : Unable to create virtual hard disk file on server running Hyper-V

Hi,
I'm trying to create a virtual hard disk file on a newly installed server, running Windows Server 2008 R2 Core Edition with Hyper-V installed.
When I try to create a new virtual hard disk I get the error "The server encountered an error trying to create the virtual hard disk. The system failed to create nameoffile.vhd error code:the sector size of the physical disk on which the virtual disk resides is not supported"

I'm led to believe that the disk block size needs to be lower, but when I try to format the partition with a block size lower than 4KB, I get the error "The cluster size is too small for the selected file system"

Specs of the machine:
4x2TB disks running raid 5 array
8GB memory
Quad core CPU

Can anyone help me resolve the issue please?

Base on my experience, if you want to use a  partition larger than 2TB, you have to use dynamic MBR or dynamic GPT.  By the way, I have seen some issue related to the block size of the  partition. The solution is to ensure the LUNS are created with a block  size of 512bytes - some people had been created with a block size of  4096 bytes - NTFS & clustering were working fine, but NO VHD  operations would succeed.

Looks like the partition you are trying to create your vhd on is of or larger then 2TB
