Question : What software can I use to monitor my internet bandwidth usage?

I am considering getting a USB wireless card or other Wi Fi device to attach to my laptop.  Because almost all of them have an maximum bandwidth usage policy I would like to monitor my usage at home, over my home wireless network, to see if I will routinely hit the common 5GB limit on the data plans.  

Is there software that I can install that will track my usage and be able to report on the usage over a specified time period?
