Question : Internal Companyweb not working without manual DNS
I have a setup in my small office where we have a Windows SBS 2003 server. It has a Sharepoint website companyweb on it. We can access the companyweb website if we have the servers IP address setup as a DNS server manually in our computers. But if we take it out and have the computer set to obtain DNS automatically it doesn't work.
Here's our setup:
Cable Modem > Zywall5 Firewall Appliance > Server and Workstations etc.
I have talked with Zyxel about the Zywall5 and we got it setup to work for a few minutes but it stopped working within ten minutes after hanging up with them. We added the Servers IP address as a third DNS server and I have gone in and made it the primary DNS server in the DHCP settings in the Zywall. It again works for a little bit then stops working.
Our problem is we have a laptop that my boss takes out of the office and when he uses wireless elsewhere the computer will not connect to the internet with the DNS manually configured to use our Server. But he still wants to have access to our internal website with the laptop when he returns to the office. What can I do to straighten this out?
Answer : Internal Companyweb not working without manual DNS
Hi,
You can edit your boss's laptop C:/windows/system32/driver
s/etc/host
s file and put an entry for your share point if that is the only requirement that you are looking at .
