Question : Server does not boot

We have a server machine with SE7501-HG2 motherboard, having dual P-III Xeon Processor and running on windows 2003 enterprise server edition. This machine is our main database server. Unfortunately, it stopped responding yesterday, 21.06.2010. On rebooting the machine, after initialization,  the first window 2003 screen (with scrolling cursors, running horizontally along) appears and immediately a blue screen appears with the following message:

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
*** The system has halted ***

When i opened the server enclosure, I found one of the processor (CPU-1) fan was not running, and the heat sink was hot.

I would like to know, what is the possible cause for this message.

I hope, the CPU has not cooked up, and if it is so, can you guide me in removing  the processor and  run the motherboard with a single CPU

thanks for sparing your valuable time.

regards

Answer : Server does not boot

So many things it could be, that my suggestion is to write it off and use an existing machine to host some virtualization software.  Since you only have a Pentium III, then it won't take much to have at least same performance as what you got with the PIII.    Bottom line, it will cost less time and money to replace the motherboard then it will to diagnose and repair what you have now.
