Question : Internet Explorer 8 locking up on Windows 7

I have a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop running Windows 7 Professional with all the latest Microsoft updates including Internet Explorer 8.

For the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing IE8 locking up often. I'll have to go to task manager and end the session/process but when I go back in, it locks up again. A total restart resolves the issue for a while. I ended up turning off the "Protected Mode" for the Internet zone. I havn't actually determined if that helped any but it appears to be working better now. I regularly clean out the cookies and "temporary internet files".

Im not a big fan of 3rd party browsers but maybe I should consider it more.

Any thoughts?

It could be a faulty or incomplete flash player installation.

Uninstall completely: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Then reinstall: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

Also check your video driver and installed video codecs.
