Question : XP - can boot into safe mode, but not safe mode with networking. Also can't boot normally
I have a Dell GX620 with XP. When I try to boot normally it shows the Windows splash screen with the bar going across about 6 times and then the computer freezes and the laser on the bottom of the mouse is off. When I try to boot into Safe Mode With Networking it starts booting and loading drivers and then freezes. The computer can boot into Safe Mode though. There are no clues in the logs because the computer locks up. I have tried taking out the PCI-X video card and using the one on the system board and that didn't change anything. I also went into MSConfig and set it to Diagnostic Mode so it disables almost everything. Still locks up on boot in Normal mode and Safe Mode With Networking.
In an effort to be completely upfront, this computer hasn't booted Windows XP normally yet. I have two Microsoft MDT 2010 deployment servers (I've tried both) and I can deploy to many other types of computers, but this is my first attempt on a Dell GX620. It went through the mini-setup wizard and joined it to the domain and everything, but on it's first real boot up is where it is hanging. I also tried disabling the NIC in safe mode. This same deployment works fine on about 4 or 5 other Dell desktop and Lenovo ThinkPad models I've tried it on.
Any ideas to get it to boot so I can troubleshoot further? Can I remove the network stack in Safe Mode? It has to be networking related since it will boot into Safe Mode, but not Safe Mode With Networking, right?

have you tried switching off anything in the bios you don't need, restore it to defaults and unplug everything other than keyboard, mouse and monitor
