After 20 years on Windows, I have finally made the transition to Mac.. and loving it. Should have done this years ago.
I'm trying to setup for web dev, and need to change my hosts file (located in /private/etc). I was unable to save the file as it said I didn't have permissions, so game myself permissions... but now when I try to save the file, it just says that it couldn't be saved (without giving a reason).
Periodically, I get a message saying that the file can't autosave as i don't have necessary permissions in the folder (Im assuming etc), but I can't work out how to set permissions for that folder. I was able to get to the 'More Info' for the 'etc' folder, but couldn't see option for setting permissions.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to be able to modify and save my hosts file.
