Question : Guide to install OS in newly Hard Drive

Hi,
I had a long thread going for sometime (see: http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Q_26288895.html#a33082953)
What happened was that my primary (master) drive failed and was not able to access the Operating system drive (usually C Drive). I tried a lot but failed! :-(
Now i can access a that if i make that as a slave drive. So i would buy a new HDD (80 GB). Now that would be a primary drive. How can i install OS in that drive? Does that require a simple boot from Operating System CD (by changing setting in BIOS)?
Also let me know how can i fit this new HDD correctly in my CPU and with motherboard. Make sure that my PC (desktop) is 6 years old...!!!
