Question : what is Imap path prefix

Hello

trying to get exchange email access from imac on a sbs 2003 server network

i have put in all the details of the account and they can recieve emails but not send it.  they get an error "the server (servername) refused connection on port 443"

looking on apple web site i found this

"For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure the Exchange server for IMAP access. Some system administrators may refer to an Outlook Web Access Server as an Internet Information Services (IIS) server.
For IMAP accounts, when you first connect to your mail server, all your mailboxes are automatically synchronized, so that the email messages on your computer are the same as those on the server."

I haven't set up the server but have admin access.

how would i find out if IMAP is set up?
How would i set it up if not?

one of the mails settings tat is blank is Imap path prefix

what is Imap path prefix?

thank you for any help

Answer : what is Imap path prefix

Test port 443, issue the command "telnet servername.domain.com 443" to test connecting from a remote host to TCP443 on the server in question.  You'll either get "connection refused" (not listening or is filtered/blocked by the server or a an intermediate device) or you'll be sent immediately to a blank window with a cursor, indicating that the traffic is routing in to that port.

For most of the queations you posed I believe the below will help:

Mac OS X 10.5: Can receive email, but not send email

When trying to send email messages in Mail, an alert similar to this may appear:
"Cannot send message using the server example SMTP
The server 'smtp.example.com' cannot be contacted on port 25.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later
to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered."
