Question : Looking for help with a new DC

Hi All,

I'll try to keep this short.. I've added a new server to my company. It's a VM and has been running for about 4 months. The old server is sbs 03 standard on a physical machine. The new one is sbs 08 standard running as a VM on VMware. all files my staff need to access are on the new server and working fine. Exchange is on the new server and working fine (for at least 2 months now). all FSMO roles are currently on the new server but I've been switching them back and forth in an attempt to get this figured out.

What I want to do is remove the old server from the system entirely and just run on the new one. The problem is that the system won't let me. When I try to DCpromo the old server I get a message saying it can't find another GC on the domain, though both servers are GC's.. at least as far as server management is concerned..

So at this point I've transferred everything to the new system that's obvious to anyone but as soon as I turn the power off or disconnect the old server, you can no longer log in. Dcdiag reports a number of errors on the new server but I'm not to sure what to do with them. I've attached the file for viewing. Any help would be appreciated as I've hit the limit of Microsoft's grace period and it's auto shutting down my old server now. I shall refrain from commentary on the irony of how they give you a time limit on something they built that doesn't work ;)

Cheers,

Tony

Answer : Looking for help with a new DC

THanks.. tried that.. it doesn't.. once the old one is turned off, the system won't function right. I've just finished copying files and am starting the rebuild now.. hate to say I'm giving up but I need to have this running for staff tomorrow morning.. who needs sleep anyway?  Thanks all!
