Question : open access form to no record

I have a form with combo boxes in the header that allow the user to select the needed record.  I would like to have the form open to no record, and use the combo boxes on the form to select the record instead of opening the form to the first record or using another form to select the record.

I do not want to open the form to a new record for data entry, but to no record at all.

What is the best option to do this and are there any problems with my idea?

not MVC2
uninstall only sp1 and then install sp1 and mvc1
