Question : Any web-designers use a test site?

I just hit on the idea of opening up a "test" or "demo" site with some obscure name and a .me or something instead of .com, so that I can upload a copy of a client's re-design there for a short time  before I load the real thing to her domain. That way she can see exactly how it's going to look, and how it will work, and we can make any needed changes.

The site would be a sub-domain under my design site, so it wouldn't be a big expense. I'd replace the meta tags with <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> so the site wouldn't be indexed by search engines.

Are other designers out there doing this? Is there a reason why I shouldn't? Any hints or suggestions to make it a better idea?

I would think most developers utilize this approach.  I do.  If you already have a domain, you can just use it and make an alias prefix in DNS. yourcustomer.yourdomain.extension, this way you can easily add and remove customers.
