Question : windows 7 watch on tv

Hi,
What do I need to do to get my windows 7 music and movies to play on my hd tv?  I bought something called WDTV (western digital) which allows you to pull music from your network, but this is not what I am looking for.  I would like to be able to control my tv and speakers with my laptop and just have it play on my system.

I have a server behind my tv which I could add a vm and a video card to if that was what was necessary.

There is a windows 7 commercial when someone pushes a movie to the tv and was wondering if there was an easier way that using a vm.

Again, I don't want hardware that will let me access info on my network using their interface, I just want to be able to push to my tv.

I also tried a converter cable from my laptop to my tv, but it looked terrible.  I also don't want anything hooked up to my laptop and don't have hdmi output.

I don't mind buying a card for my server though since it is behind the tv anyway.  I would also consider a piece of hardware that would work well.

Thanks

The only way you are going to be able to send something from your laptop to the TV is if
a- you physically connect it to the TV
b- you stream the media from your PC to the other machine that is connected to the TV

You can do this by sharing your media in Windows Media center then setting up media center on your server and connecting to the shared media like an extender does, you can also do this with an Xbox 360 and NO you dont need Vista or 7 to do it.

Or you can setup your laptop as a media server which is much more complicated
