Question : sharepoint columns

i have a sharepoint site.  within this site i have a shared documents section.  i want to create a folder called contracts, within this folder i will have different sub folders say sub-contracts 1, sub-contracts 2, etc.  within each sub-contracts folder i want to add some columns, but i don't want to see these columns in the contracts level.  how do i do this?  whenever i add a column it seems to add it at all levels.

1. i think the DG in 2010 is not internet enabled by default

2. for those who are faicing issues.. use exchange online mode or download  offline address book
