Answer : This is in AIX 5.3 ..how to make aio and posix_aio available without a system reboot

Hi,

1) AIO

Issue "smitty aio". Make desired changes under "Change / Show Characteristics of Asynchronous I/O", the most important being

"STATE to be configured at system restart" which must be "Available".

Once you hit Enter the system will tell you that a reboot is needed. Don't bother, simply either go to "smitty aio" again and select "Configure Defined Asynchronous I/O", hit Enter and you're done without a reboot, or issue "cfgmgr" which will have the same effect.

2) POSIX AIO

Issue "smitty posixaio" and proceed exactly like above.

BTW. Are you really sure that you will need POSIX AIO? The Oracle and DB/2 database servers, for example, use legacy AIO only!
