Question : Setup Programm for Linux systems

Hi,

I've to collect some informations about something like setup software for Linux.
As for Windows everybody knows the Windows Installer and third party software like InstallShield I don't know much about Linux.
The only one I know is the RMP  Installer but I think is not for every distribution or is it?
Is there GUI based software available for systems like KDE, GNOME, Xfce and LXDE and if so do they work with any of these desktop solutions?
